6 & 7 October 2024 - [Malaysia Urban Forum 2024: Youth Third Space]

The UTP-ASEAN Student Association proudly participated as strategic partners in the Malaysia Urban Forum (MUF) Youth Assembly 2024, held on October 5th and 6th in George Town, Penang. This impactful event, organized by URBANICE Malaysia alongside the Penang Island City Council and supported by the Penang State Government, focused on sustainable urban development under the theme "My City, My Home." As facilitators, our team engaged actively in sessions like "Borak-Borak Belia" and "Youth Design the Third Space," where youth participants discussed and envisioned inclusive urban spaces. The event offered a unique platform for our members to voice their ideas, connect with policymakers, and gain insight into sustainable city planning based on the MADANI principles. Attending the World Habitat Day commemorations and participating in the Youth Townhall with Malaysia’s Minister of Housing and Local Government further enhanced our understanding of youth-led urban development. Despite minor logistical challenges, which were managed through strong communication, our participation successfully empowered our members to take ownership of community-oriented projects and collaborate with a broader network of youth advocates and urban planners. Inspired by this experience, we plan to apply these insights within our community through awareness campaigns, follow-up workshops, and potential partnerships to foster youth-driven change in urban sustainability. The MUF Youth Assembly 2024 reaffirmed our commitment to community engagement and inclusivity in urban planning, marking a significant step forward in our mission to support sustainable development.
