UTP-ASA Shines at ASEAN Youth Social Journalism Contest 2023

From 12 June to 16 July 2023, our President and Secretary proudly represented Malaysia as Finalists in the prestigious ASEAN Youth Social Journalism Contest 2023, organized by the ASEAN Foundation, ASEAN Secretariat, and ASEAN-USAID PROSPECT. This initiative brought together aspiring young changemakers from across the region to advocate for social impact through the power of journalism.

Workshop on Jornalism

As part of their finalist journey, they participated in the ASEAN Youth Social Journalism Regional Workshop held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 12 to 16 June. During the workshop, they received intensive training on campaign planning, digital media strategies, and storytelling tools to effectively raise awareness on critical social issues.

Their campaign, Edu4AllMY, tackled educational inequality among Malaysia’s indigenous (Orang Asli) communities. The initiative aimed to reduce dropout rates and increase access to quality education by leveraging social media platforms and engaging local NGOs. Through creative storytelling and data-driven advocacy, the campaign highlighted the urgent need to bridge the education gap and ensure no child is left behind.

After weeks of dedication and grassroots impact, we're thrilled to announce that Edu4AllMY was awarded 2nd Runner-Up in the regional contest! This achievement not only marks a proud moment for UTP-ASEAN Student Association, but also underscores the importance of youth-led solutions in shaping a more inclusive and equitable ASEAN.

We thank the ASEAN Foundation, ASEAN-USAID PROSPECT, and all the mentors and partners who empowered our youth leaders throughout this journey. Their success is a powerful reminder of how young voices can drive real change in our communities and across the region.
