AI Ready ASEAN | UTP-ASA

Overview

AI Ready ASEAN, an initiative by the ASEAN Foundation with support from Google.org, is set to empower 5.5 million ASEAN citizens to thrive in the AI era. UTP-ASEAN Student Association has been appointed as one of the Local Implementing Partners in Malaysia.

Running from 2024 to 2026, the programme will train 2,000 Master Trainers, engage 800,000 individuals in AI learning, host regional and national policy convenings, release a comprehensive regional AI research report, and launch an e-learning platform serving as a central AI resource hub.

To cultivate an AI-literate ASEAN society by empowering youth, educators, and parents with accessible, inclusive, and ethical AI education for a future-ready region.

Mission

To provide foundational and practical AI knowledge tailored for diverse community groups across ASEAN.
To build a collaborative learning ecosystem involving students, teachers, and families to support AI education.
To foster responsible, ethical, and inclusive use of AI aligned with ASEAN values and global sustainable development goals.

Objectives

To reach 208,000 youths, educators, and parents across Malaysia with an AI-themed Hour of Code campaign that builds foundational digital awareness and sparks interest in AI.
To provide 31,200 participants (youths, educators, and parents) with structured, in-depth training modules on AI, enabling critical understanding and hands-on experience with ethical and practical applications.
To develop and support a network of Master Trainers across Malaysia who will lead localized training sessions and drive nationwide AI literacy efforts in alignment with the AI Ready ASEAN framework.
To engage educational institutions, ministries, and NGOs in building long-term, inclusive AI learning environments through strategic collaboration and community-based programs.
