On 30 August 2023, the UTP-ASEAN Student Association had the distinct honour of visiting the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to ASEAN, located within the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta. This visit was one of the highlights of our Jakarta chapter, offering our delegation a rare and invaluable opportunity to connect directly with Malaysia’s diplomatic representation to ASEAN.
We were warmly welcomed by Dato’ Nur Izzah Wong Mee Choo, the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN, who graciously took time to engage in a meaningful and insightful discussion with our team. The dialogue focused on Malaysia’s active role within ASEAN, current regional developments, and the importance of youth in diplomacy and multilateral cooperation.

Dato’ Nur Izzah shared her vast experience in international relations and reaffirmed the importance of youth engagement in shaping ASEAN’s future. From strategies to strengthen regional solidarity to Malaysia’s priorities in ASEAN’s evolving landscape, the session enriched our understanding of the regional architecture and inspired us to explore avenues for youth involvement in diplomacy and policy-making.
The meeting underscored the value of diplomacy, international cooperation, and Malaysia’s commitment to youth empowerment in ASEAN. It also reinforced UTP-ASA’s belief that young people can and must take an active role in supporting the ASEAN vision of peace, prosperity, and sustainability.
This encounter not only broadened our perspective but also deepened our sense of purpose as student leaders and future changemakers. We are deeply grateful to Dato’ Nur Izzah and the team at the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta for this opportunity and their encouragement in our journey.
As we continue our mission across Indonesia, we remain committed to building bridges between youth, institutions, and nations—one step at a time.
