From 17 to 27 June 2023, our President, Wong Soon Ping proudly represented Malaysia at the prestigious ASEAN-China Young Leaders Programme (ACYLP) 2023, held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and organized by the ASEAN Foundation. The program brought together outstanding youth from across the ASEAN region and China to strengthen regional ties and deepen understanding of diplomacy, cooperation, and sustainable development.

The event featured two core programs:
The Special ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting Plus China
The Third ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting Training of Trainers 2022 Plus China
These platforms equipped participants with critical decision-making and negotiation skills through simulation of ASEAN diplomacy and multilateral dialogue. Delegates explored pressing regional issues through the lens of the ASEAN Community Pillars: Political-Security, Economic, and Socio-Cultural.
Representing Lao PDR’s Minister in the ASEAN Political-Security Community Pillar, our President stood out for his leadership and strategic thinking. He emphasized the environmental vulnerabilities of the region—specifically the indirect impact of coastal issues on landlocked nations like Lao PDR, including climate-induced migration, economic disruption, and regional instability. His intervention called for unified ASEAN action on coastal resilience and cross-border environmental protection.

We are incredibly proud to announce that he received:
Best Position Paper for the ASEAN Political-Security Community Pillar
Best Strategy Paper for his Lao PDR National Delegation
This achievement not only reflects his dedication but also highlights UTP-ASEAN Student Association’s ongoing commitment to shaping regional leaders capable of addressing today’s most complex challenges.
We extend our appreciation to the ASEAN Foundation, China Mission to ASEAN, and fellow delegates for this enriching international experience.
